Vendor Spotlight

Cool Hand Ukes

Peter Hix, one of the owners of Cool Hand Ukes, started playing the ukulele when he was only 5 years old and grew up in a musical family with a father who ran a music store outside Chicago. From his father, he learned everything he could about playing these instruments, as well as how to operate the music store, which he eventually took over with his brothers.

In the 90s, he met his co-owner, Mark Lessman, when Mark moved to Chicago and ended up on one of his “Peter Hix Ochestra” gigs. Mark promptly joined the band, and a lifelong friendship began. After years of playing together and growing their skills, they took their passion for ukuleles and founded Cool Hand Ukes.

Cool Hand Ukes sells beautiful Ukuleles, made from top quality woods such as Mahogany, Taiwan Koa, Spruce, Zebrawood. Stop by this Sunday to admire our Ukuleles, and hear a beautiful demonstration!

Helen Woodward Animal Center Pet Of The Week

Staff Smitten by Velveteen Kitten

Parsley is an unbelievably soft black kitten and he wants everyone to know it! He is not shy at all, and frequently convinces staff and volunteers to spring him from his cage to hold him. All he wants in the world is to be cuddled and played with, so he’ll make a great addition to any family. At just three months old, he has a whole life of fun ahead of him and just wants to share it with someone.

Parsley is waiting to meet you at Helen Woodward Animal Center. His adoption fee is $184 total. He has been altered and is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations.  As with all pets adopted from Helen Woodward Animal Center, he is micro-chipped for identification.

Helen Woodward Animal Center is located at 6461 El Apajo Road in Rancho Santa Fe. Kennels are open daily Monday through Thursday from 12pm to 6pm; Fridays from noon to 7pm; Saturdays 10am to 6pm; and Sunday 11am to 6pm (last application accepted 15 minutes before closing). For more information call 858-756-4117, option #1 or visitwww.animalcenter.org.
