Fink’s Fermented Foods

A note from Andy, the founder of Fink’s Fermented Foods:

For me, food is like meditation.

I remember sitting up on the counter watching my mom cook when I was a kid. I remember the smell in my grandma’s house when she would make zucchini relish.

When I learned about the power of living food that is not only delicious but also medicinal, I was fascinated. My mission is to make high quality, organic, slow-fermented food more accessible and quite possibly more fun. My biggest joy is helping customers experience the healing power and the deliciousness of food that is alive.

The process of fermentation is simple and has been around for thousands of years. Sailors used it to prevent scurvy on long journeys because fermentation actually yields more vitamin C and other nutrients and can last a really long time when prepared and stored properly. Fermentation also creates a more acidic environment so certain harmful bacteria are prevented from growing and allows all the happy healthy bacteria that heal your gut and your body to thrive.

After the fermentation process, a jar of sauerkraut can keep in the fridge for around 6 months and the flavor only gets better and more complex!! I love the process because it uses the yeasts that are on your hands, and on the veggies to make magic. It takes your environment and helps it to grow and flourish.

For people that have blood sugar or digestive issues, or if you’ve taken quite a few antibiotics, fermented foods help to rebuild and restore your gut biome.

Plus, this stuff just tastes gooooood!!!

I hope you fall in love with our products & find a new way to nourish your body and spirit.

Can’t Resist Sweet Potato and Mashed Potatoes!

You know that relaxed feeling you get after Thanksgiving dinner? Well, Sweet Potato and Mashed Potatoes can put you in that same mood every day. This bonded kitty pair is smooth, rich with love and you can’t get enough of them. You won’t want to go a day without these two cuties by your side. They’re seven month old brothers who have a lot of love to give.

They can’t wait to meet you at Helen Woodward Animal Center. Their adoption fee is  $50 each but we’re waiving one adoption fee when you adoption two kitties. They have been altered and are up-to-date on all of their vaccinations.  As with all pets adopted from Helen Woodward Animal Center, they are micro-chipped for identification.

Helen Woodward Animal Center is located at 6523 Helen Woodward Way in Rancho Santa Fe. Kennels are open daily Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last application accepted 15 minutes before closing).
