The Eyewear Evolution
From the Owner, Tom:
I clearly remember the day a couple of years ago in 2019 when was struck with a vision that the time had come. After over 20 years of designing eyewear for overseas manufacturing, we can now make them ourselves here at home – Made in USA.
The ramifications of manufacturing ourselves, locally, are vast. Again, for over 20 years I have been designing and developing eyewear collections made in Italy, China, Taiwan, Japan and even as far as Mauritius but never eyewear manufactured here in the United States. Over 95% of the worlds eyewear units are manufactured and distributed from China and Taiwan with a small percentage from Japan and Italy. Now, with our eyewear collections made in the USA, we can streamline and maintain small batch production minimizing waste, reducing worldwide shipping, freight and emissions. We know the who, how and what in the making of our products.
Eyewear With the Environment Front of Mind
The first effort in drawing down the damage we are doing to the earth is to minimize our consumption, purchasing and using less of everything including sunglasses. I had to think long and hard about starting Saunt Eyewear, another product in a world of products. I believe the choice we are offering can make a difference so I decided to go for it.
We consider eyewear to be an essential product, optical and reading lenses are often a necessity and in many cases protective sun lenses are too. So when you do make the decision to buy, I hope it is a thoughtful one. Manufacturing ourselves domestically enables us to more effectively improve our sustainability efforts as they relate to not only our production process but all of our business practices and partnerships.
• Our frames are made of sustainably bio-sourced plants.
• We strive to eliminate single use plastics in every aspect of our business.
• All of our packaging is from recycled materials and is recyclable.
• We practice a policy of Transparent Production.
• We are always looking for opportunities to improve our sustainability efforts.
We are excited about the future and have many new ideas to bring forth. Thank you for helping us make this happen! Be sure to stop by Saunt Eyewear this Sunday!

Helen Woodward Animal Center Pet Of The Week
Building a Better Life for Betty
Betty the cat loves to play with toys and run around, and her adorable antics would add joy to any home! You wouldn’t know it now, but she hasn’t always been so agile. Betty was found as a stray limping on the streets of Los Angeles County. Thankfully, she was brought to Helen Woodward Animal Center where she received life-changing surgery for a hip fracture. Thanks to the Center’s expert care, Betty once again has full mobility and lets nothing hold her back! This 1-year-old, 10-pound tabby’s loving personality shines brightly through – and a future with the lucky family who adopts her is in sight!
She’s waiting to meet you at Helen Woodward Animal Center. Her adoption fee is $145. She has been altered and is up-to-date on all of her vaccinations. As with all pets adopted from Helen Woodward Animal Center, she is micro-chipped for identification.
Helen Woodward Animal Center is located at 6523 Helen Woodward Way in Rancho Santa Fe. Kennels are open daily Monday through Friday 12 to 6 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last application accepted 15 minutes before closing). For more information call 858-756-4117, option #1 or visit animalcenter.org.
